Publishers come to the party

THE hardest part for writers, apart from writing a book, is to get the attention of agents, editors and publishers.
The Skype Sessions, a new project from New England Writers Centre, offers writers at any stage of development the chance to connect directly with these elusive industry powerbrokers.
The next sessions are with Pan Macmillan Australia manager editor Emma Rafferty (Out of the Slush Pile, onto the Editor’s Desk, 16 October); publisher of books for children and young adults at Allen & Unwin Eva Mills (Know Your Market: What’s different about children’s publishing, 23 October); publisher for non-fiction at Pan Macmillan Ingrid Ohlsson (Identifying a Market for Your Non-Fiction Idea, 30 October); Australian Society of Authors executive director Angelo Loukakis (Making Digital Publishing Pay, 6 November).
These one-hour sessions are delivered via Skype on a big screen at TAS (The Armidale School), which is a partner in this new project. The tutors begin with a presentation, and there is time for questions and discussions. Cost is $20 (or $15 for NEWC members).
