Saumarez Farm Fair – National Trust Open Day

As part of the National Trust’s 2012 Heritage Festival the “Saumarez Farm Fair” will be held at Saumarez Homestead, 230 Saumarez Road (enter via Armidale Airport) this Sunday April 22. This will be the major fundraising event for 2012 with plenty of bargains on offer.
The theme for this year’s National Trust Heritage Festival is “Amazing Stories – Innovation and Invention’. Gordon Edmonds will help bring to life some relevant “Amazing Stories’ in his Yarn in the Barn sessions during the day. “Molly the Maid’ will involve the children in the old fashioned art of making butter and “Farmer Schwarz’ will try to demonstrate how to get some milk out of his “amazing’ cow. The New England Antique Machinery Club will be having working displays of vintage machinery, small motors, tractors and steam engines as well as providing free hayrides in a tractor carry all and trailer. The Armidale Vintage & Classic Cars Club will display their vehicles and will be only too happy to talk to visitors about their cars. There are hopes a blacksmith will be demonstrating his craft making horse shoes in the Saumarez blacksmith’s shop at the end of the wagon shed. The Saumarez farm machinery and wagons from the last century will also be on display.
The Friends of Saumarez will be raffling a special Mother’s Day hamper and some wine and will have craft, white elephant and garden stalls as well as providing morning and afternoon teas and coffee with light lunches all day. The Armidale Dumaresq Lions Club will also be putting on their popular barbecue with steak sandwiches, sausages and drinks.
There will be plenty of market stalls, animals and activities from 10am to 4pm. Half price guided house tours and guided farm tours will be held throughout the day. House tours on the hour from 11am to 3pm and farm tours 11.30am and 1.30pm.
