New England Bowls With Richie Clutterbuck
PLAYERS from Walcha, Uralla, Guyra, Glen Innes, Ex-Services and City took part in the annual major/minor pairs carnival at the City club on Saturday. A full field of 36 teams played four games each of 11 ends and at the conclusion of these matches only three teams remained undefeated. The winners with four wins + 26 shots were the father and daughter combination of Glen and Breanna Graham. This would be Breanna’s first carnival win and I am sure that she has a big future in the game. Bowls has been a part of the Graham’s family for many years with their grandfather, Noel, representing the state many years ago. Runners up on four wins +25 were Mike Ahoy and Jason Prince with Graeme and Kim Porter third on four wins +24. Kim also won the ladies’ singles title at the Ex-Services recently by defeating Joy Bourke in the final. The fourth prize money went to the Guyra pairing of Robert Moore and Cameron Peardon with three wins one draw +27.
McLennan at helm
THE annual meeting of the Ex-Services men’s bowling club was held on Sunday and Andrew McLennan has been returned unopposed as President. They have a full field for the annual Spring Triples carnival with 14 teams taking to the carpet on 28-29 September. Armidale City will hold its annual meeting on Sunday at 10am.
Champion of champion singles
TODD Fuller makes the long trip to Wee Waa at the weekend to contest the champion of champion singles at zone level and his first round will be played on Saturday morning. The following weekend he and father Steve have an even longer trip to Lighting Ridge for the champion of champion pairs playoffs. Entries are still wanted for the City club’s City for All Seasons minor pair’s carnival and $3000 prize money is up for grabs. Dates for play are 12-13 October and more details are available from the club or the bowls co-ordinator. Both Glen Innes and Guyra are also calling for entries in their respective carnivals.
