Roadmap to visitor growth

COLLABORATION combined with determination will play an important role in attracting visitors to New England/Northern Tablelands region of NSW.
Attending a Community Roadmap workshop at Uralla, Inland Tourism NSW Chief Executive Officer Graham Perry said a positive approach to destination management would drive growth in visitation to the region.
“What I noted was the passion displayed by attendees and their willingness to work together to achieve a positive outcome, rather than openly compete with each other,” he said.
The Community Roadmap workshop was attended by more than 30 visitor Information centre management staff and tourism operators from New England/Northern Tablelands, which included Armidale, Glen Innes, Guyra, Inverell, Tenterfield, Uralla, Walcha.
Mr Perry said one of the aims of destination management is to clearly focus the destination’s core offering ensuring that the “promise” is both reflective of consumers’ needs and wants and that it can be delivered.
The Uralla Community Roadmap workshop wrapped up a range of sessions held throughout the region over recent months.
Attendees were given the opportunity to peruse and comment on the Community Roadmap publication specially published for the workshop.
Workshop facilitator and industry development specialist Renae Darlington explored and reviewed a segment labelled ’regional analysis’.
Discussion components included: guiding principles, getting there, destination priorities, strengths of the region, key challenges faced, and regional opportunities to increase tourism expenditure.
