THE man credited with helping Mitch Johnson rediscover his form for Australia will run a coaching master class in Armidale next month.
Cricket Australia bowling coach Craig McDermott said he was looking forward to his visit.
“It’s always good to get out into country areas and check out the talent,” he said.
“As a general rule there are a lot of kids with raw talent in the bush, but they don’t necessarily fulfill their potential.
“I guess they don’t have access to some of the programs they have in the city.”
McDermott said there was no secret to the turnaround of Johnson in the Test team.
“Confidence is everything in cricket,” he said.
“When you’re confident you perform at your peak level. It’s the same with batting and fielding.”
Johnson was the catalyst for Australia’s success in the opening two Tests of the Ashes series in Brisbane and Adelaide.
“Mitch’s form will drop off at some stage, that’s natural, but now we know what works for him so that should help if he has another dry spell with the ball.”
McDermott will be at The Armidale School on 18-19 January for his masterclass.
