Nixon’s triumph on home track

ARMIDALE greyhound trainer Denis Nixon enjoyed a winner on his home track as Kikem Babe broke his maiden on Saturday.
From box one, Kikem Babe showed early speed over the 365m and was never headed in his three-length win, defeating fellow $2.25 favourite Free At Last.
It was a good result for Nixon, who only has a small kennel of dogs.
Local trainers made it two wins on the trot when Uralla’s Robert Bray enjoyed success in race two with Golden Spark.
From box seven, the black dog embraced the wide draw to street his rivals by almost seven lengths, recording a slick time of 20.97 in the process.
It was the second fastest 365m time of the day, with free-for-all winner Yo Cool Maxie triumphing in 20.81 as the well-backed favourite.
That win in race seven brought up a double for trainer Barry Evans, who earlier enjoyed success in the Grade 5 event over 365m as Tiko bounded clear from box five to win in 21.48.
A good crowd enjoyed the club’s last meeting of the year, which also doubled as a fund-raiser for local cancer patient Victoria Brown.
The Armidale Greyhound Club’s next meeting is on 1 February.
