Appeal helping farmers in need

ARMIDALE radio station 2AD has kicked off a drought appeal to help farmers in the region get through the dry conditions.
Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall kicked off the station’s appeal with a donation to the Farmers in Need account at the Armidale branch of New England Mutual.
He commended 2AD manager Steve McMillan and his staff for making the commitment to help those farmers in the region struggling to cope with the current drought conditions.
“Steve and his team were very keen to do something substantial to assist our farmers in any way possible and I’m only too happy to support this appeal and trust that the community will give it their support it as well,” the MP said.
Money raised during the appeal, which runs until 31 March, will be distributed by the Salvation Army during the first week of April.
Mr McMillan said New England communities had relied upon those on the land for so long.
“We’ve been riding on the cattle and sheep’s back, so to speak, and this is a good time to give back,” he said.
“Farming is not just a way of life; it keeps every one alive – if the farmers are struggling, then the New England’s towns and cities and communities struggle.”
Donations to the appeal can be made at any branch of New England Mutual or paid directly to: Account name: New England Drought Relief Appeal. BSB: 962-000 Account Number: 735 555.
