Tour home grown patches

COMMUNITY gardens, verge gardens, backyard vegie plots – more and more people are getting into growing some of their own food.
Now they have a chance to see how other people are doing it too.
Next weekend, on 1-2 March, Armidale Local Food (ALF) is once again conducting its garden tour with a difference, the Home Grown Garden Tour, offering participants a unique opportunity to visit 10 productive food gardens, meet other keen gardeners and share information and ideas.
“It has been a challenge putting together a tour in these dry times,” organiser Jo Leoni said.
“At least it provides an opportunity to learn how different gardeners are coping with the drought.
“The tour isn’t only about seeing some inspiring gardens, it is about sharing ideas.”
The tour is self-guided; participants purchase a tour booklet from Knight’s Store, on the corner Marsh and Mann streets. It has all the information about where and when the gardens are open.
Booklets will also be available from the Armidale Local Food stall at the Farmers’ Market and the SLA stall on the Armidale Post Office steps at the Markets in the Mall.
Cost is $20 per car (take along a friend or two) or $5 per bike.
To make it easier for cyclists, all the gardens lie within the town boundary.
