Five teams are from City, three from Glen Innes, two each from Guyra and Walcha and one from Ex-Services.
It’s a pity that more teams do not enter, as what better pennant practice is there than playing in the district events? It must be very disappointing to the district match committee who set matches down at venues and then find out that club has no entries in these events. I am sure this will change next year as we must support the clubs who support the district.
Zone issues
I ATTENDED the zone 3 meeting at Barraba on Saturday and several points arose.
A request by South Tamworth to have the number one matches moved from Gunnedah was denied. Regarding the proposed boundary changes, BowlsNSW has received many replies to the original discussion paper. Some were disappointing as it appears some areas of the paper were not fully investigated. BowlsNSW will look through these responses and review travel etc. Further details will be forwarded later.
It was pleasing to note that Ken Brett from Bendemerr was awarded the outstanding volunteer club award for his work at the club. Ken has been a mainstay at Bendy for many years and I congratulate him on this award. The senior’s round robin at Inverell East will act as a guide to selectors to pick the teams for the state finals at Ulludulla in May. Players who win selection must be prepared to travel to this event.
Juniors travel
All zone junior events will be now be played at Manilla on 24-25 May and not on the dates shown on the program. It will be busy at Ex-Services next month as on 1-2 March they host he district reserve pairs then on 8-9 March the reserve singles.
Their ladies’ club turns 40 and they will celebrate on 13 March, and to finish the month they will hold their mixed triples carnival. With only one green, entries will fill up quickly so contact the club for details.
