Upstaging the boys

Boundary Rider By Matt Nicholls

HISTORY was made in the Armidale Golf Club’s annual junior tournament on Sunday, with Coffs Harbour teenager Amelia Mehmet-Grohn becoming the first girl to win in its 21-year history.
Mehmet-Grohn scored 77 off the stick in the Ross Low Memorial Tournament to tie with Newcastle’s Brandan Biddle and Inverell’s Luke York.
The trio went into a play-off and Mehmet-Grohn triumphed after scoring pars in the two holes required to determine a winner.

Ready to rumble

Rams off to Coffs
ARMIDALE rugby league players will put their pre-season fitness to the test in Coffs Harbour this weekend.
The Rams are sending 14 players to the Coffs Sevens tournament, which will feature sides from Group 2 and Group 3.
The Rams are scheduled to play Orara Valley, Port Macquarie Sharks and Woolgoolga in the competition.

Doing her bit
WE’VE all heard those horror stories about parents at junior sporting matches, but we don’t hear a lot about those great mums and dads.
Helen Dennis is a shining light for the Armidale Junior Cricket Association. Not only does she support her children on the field, but she also does all the publicity for the regular and representative competitions.
Most of the great junior cricket pictures you’ve seen in this paper over summer have come from Helen’s camera. Keep up the good work.
