NORTHERN Tablelands residents have joined tens of thousands of people around Australia to show concern about a range of national and state issues and call for better governance.
More than 400 people gathered in Armidale’s Central Park on Saturday for March in March.
Regional speakers included former Tony Windsor staffer John Clements from Wee Waa, on the protection of aquifers, Narrabri farmer Stuart Murray opposing mining and Inverell’s Kathy Nicholson on the impact of radical cuts to the TAFE system.
Armidale speakers included Professor Graham Maddox, who spoke passionately about the erosion of social justice and the decline in caring for the vulnerable.
Also Professor Helen Ware, who contrasted the cruelty and illegality of the asylum seeker policies, with the huge migrant numbers accepted into Australia each year.
March in March events culminated in citizens protesting in Canberra on Monday.
