Shining a light on environment

THERE will be a magical glow in Uralla as the lights go out for Earth Hour on Saturday 29 March.
Preparations are well under way for this year’s Uralla Lantern Parade, which will once again contribute creatively to the town’s recognition of Earth Hour.
The Lantern Parade involves people of all ages in a celebration of community creativity.
During the preceding week, children from schools in Uralla, Rocky River, Kingstown and Kentucky will make lanterns in workshops conducted by the Lismore-based community arts company Light ’n Up.
The parade begins at nightfall – 7.15pm – when all that can be seen is the lanterns glowing in the darkness.
As they (and their invisible bearers) move down Queen Street towards Alma Park, people lining the street are treated to a truly magical spectacle.
And the magic intensifies as the drama unfolds in Alma Park.
In previous years, the event has attracted more than a thousand spectators from Uralla and surrounding communities, including Armidale and Tamworth.
