Boundary rider By MATT NICHOLLS
ARMIDALE-managed boxer Bowie Tupou has been slugging it out with world heavyweight title challenger Alex Leapai this week and is ready to wreak havoc on the Gold Coast tonight.
Mark Low said his Tongan-born star was primed for his bout against American Nick Guivas in a fight that will be broadcast live on Fox Sports.
“It should be a really good fight,” Low said.
“Bowie has been working around the clock to get ready for this and if he wins we’ll put in a nomination to contend for the Australian title.”
Tupou, who stands at 189cm and 125kg, has a 23-3 record with 16 KOs.
The former Penrith Panthers junior tackles Guivas at Jupiters Casino.
Hawks soar in Cup
POWERHOUSE Australian Rules football club Cardiff Hawks took the honours in the Tablelands Cup on Saturday, blitzing Coffs Harbour Swans in the final.
The Hawks, who dominate the Hunter’s Black Diamond League each year, had too many guns for the opposition.
Armidale-based club New England Nomads, which hosted the event at SportUNE, had wins against Wyong and Tamworth Roos, but lost to the Swans and Cardiff.
The Tamworth AFL season starts on 3 May.
