URALLA snared a thrilling victory over ladder leader Norths in the under-12 cricket grand final on Saturday.
In one of the closest games of the season, the spoils could have gone either way with the bias swinging between the two teams all morning.
Uralla batted first and, after a shaky start, set about amassing a healthy total with Nick Page (31), Zac Boland (27), Jackson Gwynne (22) and Jack Kingdom (21) all remaining not out in the team’s final score of 5/133 from 25 overs.
Ryan Swann captured 2/4 and was well supported by Zenden Grieves who also took two wickets, but Norths’ bowlers were unable to halt Uralla’s charge as they belted 17 fours on their way to their final total.
Norths were undaunted, however, as their batsmen began the arduous task of reeling in Uralla’s total.
Benji Marshall (33*), Jye Saxby (24) and Zac Davidson (18*) proved they were up to the task as Norths produced some equally impressive batting in their innings to bring them within reach of the premiership.
Uralla’s Nick Page took 2/11 and Jack Kingdom 2/15 but Norths were intent on scoring runs and it seemed nothing was going to stop them mowing down Uralla’s total.
In a thrilling end to the match, Uralla were able to capture Norths’ final wicket with Norths only two runs short of the target.
