MORE than 100 golfers have converged at the Armidale golf course for a major women’s veteran golf tournament.
Players from all over the state, including Sydney, teed off yesterday morning for a four-ball event, while the same women will back-up this morning for an individual stableford round.
One of the highlights of the event was the return of former NSW Women’s Veteran Golf president Pat Ellis, who took the first tournament outside of Sydney to Armidale in 1997.
“I love Armidale, it’s such a great city,” she said.
“The golf course is wonderful and I’ve been here many times since that tournament in 1997.”
Mrs Ellis, who didn’t play yesterday, was given the honour of hitting the opening ball of the event from the first tee. She hit her iron straight down the fairway.
