Master drills class

CRICKETERS from as far as Moree travelled to Armidale on the weekend to take advantage of a master class offered by Australian fast bowling coach Craig McDermott.
After successfully running non-selective academies in areas such as Townsville and Lismore, McDermott said he was keen to continue his relationship with cricketers from Armidale.
“I believe it’s important to bring elite level coaching to regional areas,” he said.
The model McDermott uses is based upon the philosophy that the best quality coaches will provide direct coaching to the participants, and not just act in a supervisory role.
McDermott and his assistant coaches are not just good, but are recognised as some of the best in the industry.
“This weekend Craig brought with him John Davison, who also provides coaching assistance to the Australian team – Nathan Lyon in particular,” Armidale junior cricket president Michael Dennis said.
“Craig is planning to come back to Armidale for another camp in September/October of this year so that he can maintain contact with the cricketers from last weekend and develop new relationships with boys and girls keen to take up the opportunity.”
McDermott travels to South Africa with the Australian Test team at the end of the month as they prepare to contest three Test series against the number one ranked nation.
