True life stories explored

NEW England Writers’ Centre will present Walk on the Wild Side featuring visiting author Matthew Thompson, as well as fellow non-fiction author Kay Saunders.
The event will take place on Saturday, 25 May at 5.30pm at Chaucer on Bridge St Gallery, 42 Bridge St Uralla.
Come and meet these two fabulous authors, hear about their striking books, which tell true stories of extraordinary lives, and enjoy some light refreshments in the pleasant setting of the gallery.
Do women kill? Yes, but for reasons often different to those of men … historian Kay Saunders’ new book Deadly Women, which has just been released, explores the chilling and pitiful stories of Australia’s most infamous female murderers, and is a follow-up to her earlier book, Notorious Australian Women, profiling rebels, rabble-rousers and bad girls from Australia’s history.
A professor of history at the University of Queensland from 2002-2006, Kay Saunders AM is also the recipient of the National Museum’s Medal.
Author and adventurer Matthew Thompson has been in some notably tight spots, mixing it with street gangs, paramilitaries and shamans as told in his first book, My Colombian Death(2008) and Iranian rebels, Filipino special forces soldiers, Oregon fringe dwellers and Kosovan fighters in his forthcoming book, Running With The Blood God: road-testing free-thinking from Tehran to Oregon.
Free event. Light refreshments provided. Don’t miss it!
