THE heart of every small country town is the general store and that’s no different in Kentucky.
Owners Rod and Deb McGrath have been running the store for six years and have become the backbone of the close community.
They are keen to see Kentucky’s potential realised.
“I do think it’s a hidden secret,” Mrs McGrath said.
“There’s a lot of things here that people wouldn’t realise.”
The McGraths are key players in the Kentucky Progress Association, which runs markets in the town four times a year.
It also does day trips to Armidale for social occasions.
But perhaps their biggest influence was creating a brochure that promotes their tiny town.
Mrs McGrath said although most businesses had their own pamphlets, there was no single brochure that encombassed Kentucky.
“It’s still a work in progress but the feedback has been really positive,” she said.
“We like it here and we want more people to know about us.”
