ARMIDALE history buff Bill Oates and his wife Helen will spend Anzac Day in esteemed company this year.
The couple will attend the Dawn Service in Hyde Park in London, before making their way to Westminster Abbey for a noon service.
Mr Oates, who is the archivist at the University of New England, said it would be a privilege to spend Anzac Day at such an historic site.
“We were going to go to France, but it’s so bloody hard to get accommodation there,” he said.
“We managed to get our hands on tickets for Westminster Abbey, which will be terrific.”
It’s not known if Her Majesty the Queen will attend the famous church service, however Mr Oates said he would be surprised if there wasn’t a royal presence.
“There will probably be a member of the Royal Family there,” he said.
Mr Oates and his wife are taking a well-deserved break in Europe and said one of the highlights on the agenda was attending Helston Flora Day in Cornwall, which celebrates the start of spring in England.
