ARMIDALE’S first woman to be mayor is once again opening her garden to support music in the city.
Rosemary Leitch will host the Armidale Youth Orchestras’ annual garden party next month, helping to raise funds for the city’s up and coming musical talent.
The garden party on the lawn of Mrs Leitch’s beautiful Armidale home for 15 years.
A gourmet lunch will be served after an intimate concert, with complimentary wine and juice.
Mrs Leitch said it would be easier to write a cheque for the Armidale Youth Orchestras, but got more satisfaction from hosting an event which brought the community together.
“It really is a great setting for a performance,” she said.
“I’ve always liked to think that my garden is somewhat of a rock … a place that people can come back to.”
The garden party is the major fund-raiser of the year for the Armidale Youth Orchestras and helps subsidise membership fees, fund instruments and scores, provide tutor fees, annual camps and other essential running costs of the orchestras.
Limited tickets are still available for the garden party, which will be held at 10.30am on Sunday, 6 April.
Tickets are $45 for adults, $25 for pensioners and $20 for children and are available from the New England Conservatorium of Music by calling 6773 6419.
