Just like the song, the Census goes ‘everywhere man’.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics will count communities in all of Australia’s small and isolated towns on Census night, Tuesday, August 9.
A team of Census Collectors have been even employed 2950 kilometres north-west of Perth at the Cocos (Keeling) Islands.
Head of the Population Census program, Paul Lowe says scientists at Mawson’s Huts, an Australian research base in Antarctica will also complete the Census on August 9.
“Logistically we’ve had to be really organised. Census forms and eCensus envelopes were shipped to Antarctica in January,” Mr Lowe says.
This year scientists working for Australia’s Antarctic Division at Davis Station, Casey Station, Mawson Station and Macquarie Island will complete their Census forms online using eCensus.
“The eCensus option makes it easier to accurately measure the number of scientists in Antarctica and their key characteristics,” Mr Lowe says.
