DID you know your Library offers a free home delivery service for eligible people?
Are you unable to come to the library or carry books home due to age, illness or disability? If so, the Home Library Service can help.
The 1939 Library Act states that “no charge is to be made for the delivery to a member of the library of any library material or information that the member is entitled to borrow free of charge if the member for reasons of ill-health or disability cannot reasonably be expected to attend the library in person.”
Armidale Dumaresq Memorial Library subscribes to the Living Learning Libraries objective of providing “access to library information and resources for those community members who are unable to physically access their local library for any reason.”
This free home delivery service has been a valuable community service in Armidale for more than 42 years, encouraging social inclusion, creating opportunities for life-long learning, and providing support for those who are vulnerable and isolated. Established community services such as the Home Library Service may even assist some residents to remain in their homes longer before moving into care.
Home Library staff members interview applicants to assess their eligibility and determine which service suits their needs. Full-time carers of housebound members are also eligible for the service.
Deliveries are made fortnightly or monthly depending on your needs. The service can also be accessed by library members who have short-term mobility issues.
You can request and borrow from the full range of library resources, and reference services as well as accessing inter-library loan facilities.
