EASTS will look to put the pressure on second-placed City when the Armidale District Cricket Association first grade teams meet at Harris Park on Saturday.
With one win separating the two sides at the halfway mark of the season, Easts will be hoping to regain some momentum after entering the Christmas break with a solid victory against Ex-Services.
That day, Easts skilled Servies for 93 before scoring 1/95 in 22 overs.
On Saturday, it’s unlikely to be that easy.
City boasts a quality line-up, with all-rounder Andrew Brownlie the star performer.
Although Brownlie’s batting has not been at the usual high standard this season, barring one knock of 96, his bowling has been exceptional.
To date, Brownlie has taken 20 wickets at an average of 9.15.
He’s been supported with the ball by Karl Triebe, who should be raring to go on Saturday after a lengthy and much-needed break.
There hasn’t been a lot of other standout performers, though, meaning there are some City players who are fighting for their spot in the first XI.
It’s been a similar story at Easts, which has relied on all-rounder Ben Welch and opening batsman Dean Moore for the bulk of the season.
City will start favourites on Saturday, but expect a close contest.
In the other match, ladder leaders Hillgrove take on Ex-Services at the Sportsground.
Although at opposite ends of the table, it should be a competitive match considering Servies upset the Colts last time they met.
A blistering knock from Cody Graham proved the difference between the sides.
Hillgrove should boast a full-strength team on Saturday, with Michael Dawson set to opening the batting after a blistering tour of New Zealand with the Northern NSW Emus.
