A record number of 261 children attended the Armidale Junior Blue Light Disco which was held for the first time in the Armidale Bowling Club’s Auditorium on Friday night, October 19.
The ‘Superhero’ themed event for kids aged five to 12 years old was supervised by police officers and registered volunteers who completed ‘working with children’ checks.
Pelnty of great prizes and vouchers donated by local businesses were up for grabs. Best dressed superhero, Georgia Vaughan, took out first prize of a Wii Sports Resort Pack and two runners-up, Alice Dennison and Tylor Patton, each took home Wii DJ Hero. All in all, everyone had a whole lot of fun.
Since coming to Armidale late in 2012, Blue Light Discos have proved valuable in the benefits they provide to the Armidale community. The events provide young people with entertainment in an environment free from drugs, alcohol, tobacco, intimidation and anti-social behaviour, in partnership with the NSW Police Force. Blue Light aims to enhance relationships between young people and Police as they believe in the long-term benefits that those relationships can bring.
Preparations are currently in place for a Christmas themed Junior Blue Light Disco with perhaps a special visit from ‘you know who’.
Armidale Blue Light Committee, in conjunction with the NSW Police Force and PCYC, would like to thank the Armidale Bowling Club, Armidale Sport and Recreation Club, McDonalds, The Sweet Angel, Armidale Dumaresq Council and the PRA for their support of Armidale Blue Light. If any other businesses wish to donate prizes or support the next Armidale Christmas Blue Light, please contact Senior Constable Rachael Sellers at Armidale Police Station on 6771 0699.
