Cultural bids succeed

NEW England Regional Art Museum (NERAM) and Opera North West have received NSW Government arts funding for programs and projects in the region.
The New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM) has been allocated $40,000 to run its annual program of events, while Opera North West receives $12,800 to support artists’ fees for both Opera in the Paddock and the series of regional concerts presented throughout the North West.
“These art organisations contribute enormously to the cultural life of our region and beyond and are thoroughly deserving of this state funding support,” Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall said.
“I congratulate NERAM and Opera North West for securing this funding and wish them every success with next year’s programs.”
NERAM Director Caroline Downer said Arts NSW funding would assist NERAM to deliver its 2014 artistic program which includes 33 inspiring exhibitions.
“This will include a suite of 500 public programs, activities and events which will connect people with the arts through storytelling and creative participation” Ms Downer said.
“Highlights in the 2014 calendar include a curated exhibition The White Connection which draws together the threads of the White family throughout Armidale and the region, with focuses on their lasting legacy of influence.
“There will be a special Australian War Memorial exhibition Reality in Flames, based on the war artists of the World War II, and ‘I hold my father’s story. I hold my mother’s story’, an exhibition from the artists of the Amata Community who have created and shared their stories in beautiful paintings.”
Mrs Peta Blyth OAM, artistic director for Opera North West, said the organisation was grateful for the continuing support of the State Government.
“It’s terrific the Government recognises the importance of the continuation of cultural development the organisation provides for region,” Mrs Blyth said.
“We are in the middle of delivering our final concert series this week. There is one in Gunnedah tomorrow night, Moree on Saturday afternoon, and Narrabri on Sunday.
“The program for next year will be announced shortly.”
