The Armidale Rams have kept their season alive with a confidence building victory against the Tingha Tigers 46 to 26 at Rugby League Park on Saturday.
From the outset the Rams looked switched on and ready to give everything to Tingha who are not the side they were in 2011. Good field position and ball security led to a flurry of tries for the Ram. However, in the first half, Tingha held them to be 18-16 down at half time.
The second half started strongly for the Rams, scoring three tries early, which sealed Tingha’s fate.
“The game plan in the second half was to kick down into the muddy corner, which they did quite well,” said Rams president terry Whale.
“We hung onto the ball and completed our sets, which starved Tingha of possession.”
Tingha were not the team they once were and the Rams took full advantage of their much weaker opponents with their best player out after breaking his arm a few rounds ago.
“Billy Hyde at lock played really well for us as well as second rower Will Whale, winger Keith Ellis, Lewis Ahoy at centre and Anthony Postle had a cracker of a game in his last appearance for the Rams at Rugby League Park,” said Terry.
Everything is on the line for the Rams next weekend when they must win against the inform Glen Innes side in Glen Innes.
“We are outright fourth, just ahead of Moree who have a bye next weekend, but we need to win this weekend against Glen Innes as Moree have a better for and against than us,” said Terry.
“Glen Innes are the side to beat and it will be a very tough game but, as long as we play the game at our pace and hang onto the ball, we are in with a fair chance.”
