THIS week is expected to be one of the busiest ever on the local bowling greens with two major tournaments and a state title in the space of just a few days.
Kingscliff Beach Bowls Club is currently hosting the Kingscliff Beach Schweppes open pairs while the Tweed Heads Bowls Club has the Australian indoor singles championships underway. Both events have attracted top fields and will finish up today.
It will then be the turn of the Kingscliff and Cudgen Bowls Clubs to play host to the 16 top teams from throughout NSW in the Division 4 state pennant finals.
The teams for this event have had to qualify through both district and zone to reach the titles, which are being held north of Ballina for the first time ever.
The preliminary events will get under way from 9am on Saturday and Sunday at the two clubs with the final being held at Kingscliff on Monday morning from 9am.
Teams from Cootamundra Ex Services, Harbord, North Ryde RSC, St John’s Park, The Entrance, Inverell East, Scone and Bathurst Majellan will all play their preliminary and semi-final games at Kingscliff Bowls Club. Cudgen will host Merimbula, Grafton RSL, Maroubra RSL, Nelson Bay, Baradine, Nambucca Heads, Bulli and Francis Drake.
Ironically some of those who have helped to organise the event here on the Tweed Coast will miss the titles after the Kingscliff team qualified for the first division pennants titles at Merimbula over the weekend.
