New England Bowls With Richie Clutterbuck
IT was a very successful weekend for New England bowlers in the state pairs played at Quirindi. I do not have any final scores however I can report that in the senior pairs John Jackson and Geoff Reeves from the Guyra club won the Zone 3 title and they together with Walcha’s Brian Lockyer and Mick Hamel will be playing in the state finals at East Maitland in October. Brian and Mick won the reserve pairs section. In the open division Jake and Glen Graham lost their semi-final match 30-20 to Lighting Ridge. The eventual winners were Nathan Wise and Scott Thorning from South Tamworth who went straight to the final after their opposition Kyle and Mark Skaines had to forfeit.
Annual BCIB major/minor pairs
At the City club, 36 teams took to the greens for the annual BCIB major/minor pair’s event and players from Guyra, Glen Innes, Armidale Ex-Services and City enjoyed beautiful weather for the weekend.
After the five games of 21 ends of two-bowl pairs, four teams had registered wins in all games. Promising youngsters Brody Dexter and Justin Bullen combines well to take home the major prize with plus 72 with second to Steve Fuller and Thomas Inman on plus 65. Third place went to Claude McFayden and Jim Williams with plus 61 from Greg Harrison and Bruce Witherdin plus 60. Guyra took home prize-money with Col Stanley and Robert Moore on 4.5 wins plus 59 taking fifth and Graham Smith and Ian Inman finished sixth on 4 wins 1 loss plus 62. Nominations are now being called for the popular major/minor Coca Cola pairs at City on 14 September and the City For All Seasons minor pairs in October. Please note that the dates appearing on the flyers for the City For All Seasons minor pairs are incorrect and they should read 12 and 13 October. I will forward new copies to all clubs this week. The dates on the district calendar are incorrect.
NSW rookies championships
Players who entered the NSW rookies championships should check the Royal website for details regarding playing dates and venues. As far as I can see only teams from Glen Innes and Amidale City have entered these events with Ian Inman and Aaron Kelly from City and Ian Jacobs and Ross Gallagher from Glen taking part and we wish them luck.
