OUR Tweed District Friday Night Junior Pennants and Saturday Junior Fixtures competitions are hotting up as we get down to the business end.
Pottsville Team Sonic continue their unbeaten run in Pennants with Banora Champions in second place, their only loss at the hands of Team Sonic. The other teams are in a close battle for the third and fourth finals positions.
In Division One, Murwillumbah Mobsters are undefeated and well out in front with four other teams in a close battle for the other finals positions.
Division Two saw Banora Legends, currently in fifth position score a big win over frontrunners Murwillumbah Meteors. Kirra Ninjas (last year’s Division Three winners) are in second place and in hot pursuit of the leaders.
Division Three sees two Murwillumbah teams, Mojo and Mafia, having a great battle for top spot with Tweed Head Wallabies going well in third place ahead of Pottsville Sonic Superstars in fourth place.
Division four is a very close comp with Murwillumbah Mustangs undefeated and just in front of Tweed Heads Winners, Banora Troublemakers and Pottville Sonic Allstars. Coming down to the business end any of the four teams could take out the minor premiership.
Division five has two Tweed Heads teams, the Possums and Bilbies locked in a battle for top spot with two Murwillumbah teams, the Magic and Marvels chasing the two leading teams.
Onto the tournament circuit, and one of our top female juniors, Sonic Pottsville’s Amber Molloy, 15, continues to impress. After a recent win at the Gold Coast under-18 Rosebowl and previous good results, Amber headed up to the Ingham Championships with coach Ryan Kebblewhite and a squad of team-mates, and made it to the semi-finals of the Women’s AMT (Australian Money Tournament). Her hard work and dedication will see her Australian ranking continue to rise.
Another group of rep players have just played at the champion of champions event at Grafton on the weekend. A full wrap-up will be in next week’s column.
