Rams top the premiers

In a scintillating performance and one that deserves the Armidale Rams the title of the sleeping giant in the group 19 competition, spectators at Rugby League Park on Sunday will do well to hide their excitement at their teams awesome performance against 2011 premiers the Inverell Hawks convincingly winning 35-14.
Club supporters must be wrapped at their teams consistent improvement after an embarrassing start to the competition against Guyra.
“It was a fantastic game, with a large crowd in attendance, the spectators were treated to some great footy, with the likes of Clarrie Moran, Alistair Faulkner and Matt Munzenrieder showing what a great class of players they are,” said Jeff Ridley.
“On debut for the Rams was Brodie Rumsby who had an outstanding game and it was great to see a return from injury to the field from co-coach Brian Dennison.
“The whole Senior side can be proud of their efforts on Sunday, they are really working well and will be a force throughout the rest of the competition.”
Try scorers for the Rams were Alistair Faulkner (2), Paul Quinlan, Geoff Swann(2), Will Whale, Clarrie Moran kicked five conversions and a field goal.
The Armidale TAB Sportsbet points for the round were: 3 points – Clarrie Moran, 2 points – Alistair Faulkner and 1 point – Will Whale. Coaches award went to Alistair Faulkner and players player went to Geoff Swann.
In other games the Reserve grade had a mixed game going down to Inverell 38-30. The Rams were behind in the first half. The second half saw a good effort to come back to be within two points of the lead with five minutes to go. Inverell finally wrapped up the game with just minutes to go.
Try scorers for the Rams were Chad Borger (2), Chris Schultz, Mark Khan, Brian Dennison and five conversions also to Brian Dennison. Player points were: 3 points – Mark Khan, 2 points – Chad Borger and 1 point – Brian Dennison. Coaches award went to Adrian Morris and Players player was Adrian Morris.
The Under 18s had a great game taking the win 40-22. This young side is showing real promise, they are going from strength to strength each round under the guidance of coach Clarrie Moran. Try scorers for the Rams were: Sam Sewell, Navi Tiko, Steven Quinlan, Dylan Griffiths, Jordan Moran, Tekapua Heremaia and six conversions to Jake McFadyen who showed real style with the boot. Player points were: Navi Tiko 3 points, Adam Croft 2 points, Damien Dussart 1 point.
Ladies League tag tried really hard and were missing some key players going down 36-8.
The girls efforts every round need to be commended as they never say die and are showing signs of improvement in each game. Player points: 1. Jess Widders, 2. Kady Gwynne, 3. Kayla White.Coaches player was Alana Dunn and players Player was Kayla White.
