Fishing On The Tweed

By DAVID SOLANO

I HAVEN’T been down to Clarrie Hall Dam for quite some time – I’d been told that the place had closed for 14 months while they filmed a movie there.
I phoned the local council and they told me it was open to the public on the weekends and I’ve got to say it’s pretty surreal down there as the movie set is a small village with around 10 little huts and one big main house.
Ric and I couldn’t have picked a better day to go- it was amazing. We drove through Mur-bah around 6am and the place was so quiet – then we noticed the mist, it was beautiful, Mt Warning was coming in and out of view, we just sat on 60k’s the whole way, truly an awesome drive.
We arrived there a little early as the council lady told me the gates opened at 7 am, but when we got there the sign said open at 7.30am, so we got our rods ready while waiting.
I was quite excited as I love bass fishing and I was trying a new lure that Gary from Anglers chose for me – it’s an almost snag-proof lure called a Spinner Bait, it worked! It’s the one in the photo hanging out of the bass’s mouth.
Overall we didn’t catch too many fish, but what a place to fish. We spent a good seven hours out there and I could have stayed longer.  I recommend a trip to Clarrie Hall, it’s family friendly and one heck of a pretty place.
