Murwillumbah Football Club did just enough to continue its unbeaten run in the Gold Coast Premier League Soccer competition with a 3-0 win over arch-rivals Palm Beach on Saturday in Murwillumbah.
Murwillumbah held on to get a win against a very hard working Palm Beach side.
It was down to some very solid defending and clinical finishing which finally meant Murwillumbah came out on top and kept up the unbeaten record.
A penalty from Troy Ruthven and two from man-of-the-match Luke Morley saw off a very sharp and determined Palm Beach side.
On a day when the side did not fire on all cylinders, it was very satisfying to still come out on top and stretch out their lead at the top – with one of the following group, Burleigh Heads, dropping two points at the Knights. It is a fantastic position for the club to be in and one that means that they will have a target on their backs as others look to topple the unbeaten record and incredible start to the season.
The reserve grade was unfortunately on the end of a hammering against league leaders Palm Beach.
Kingscliff Football Club’s undefeated Premier Ladies also share top spot with Broadbeach FC and showed the large crowd on Saturday afternoon just why they’ are in that position, beating Southport 3-0, goals scored by Maddie Roberts and Belinda Dawney.
Kingscliff men have finally turned their season around, smashing Pacific Pines 4-1, with goals from Matt Crompton and Anthony Blyde. Craig Madden said the men still had a lot to do but it was getting better – and having Arron Hodge and Ben Waldron back was a boost to the squad.
Tweed United made four from four for all Tweed first grade sides beating Nerang 2-0, goals scored by Mat Noble and Nolan White.
In partnership with local clubs, SIBA Soccer Club Totz are kicking off next week. Dates: Tweed united FC – Mondays from 6 May. Kingscliff FC – Tuesdays from 7 May. Murwillimbah FC – Wednesdays from 8 May.
