Tennis tournament on again

The second annual Armidale Tennis Tournament is to be held again on October 19 and 20. Over 26 years ago Max Schaeffer of Uphill and Schaeffer Real Estate ran the original tournament which used to attract over 200 players and we are expecting similar participation from all levels for this Tournament.
Last year’s tournament was heralded a huge success with great support from Armidale Sponsors and we had over 150 entries. Part of the goal of the upcoming McDonalds Armidale Junior and Open Tennis tournament is to bring Australian Ranked tennis closer to the players in the North West region so players don’t have to continually travel huge distances for Tournament tennis play. The amount and standard of tournaments is expected to increase over time as Tamworth already holds two successful events each year at Easter and in September and West Tamworth has applied for another white ranked tournament.
The McDonalds Junior and Open Tennis Championships will begin at the Armidale Tennis Club from October 19 to October 21, 2012. Australian Ranking Points are on offer as it is a ‘white points tournament’ for the Junior age groups, which will attract talented players from throughout the state.
$4000 prize money is on offer. While the 10’s, 12’s, 14’s and 16’s will receive trophies and gift vouchers. Entries will close on October 5 and you may enter up to four events. To enter go to http://tournaments.tennis.com.au/ or contact Justin Sherriff on 0423 915850 or Tournament Secretary Letetia Dennehy on 0432740883 for more information on how to enter.
Thank you to all the major sponsors and last year Max Schaeffer kindly donated the two trophies from the Original tournament with winner’s names on it such as John Newcombe (former world number one) and Kurt Neilson of Denmark.
This tournament is for juniors and adults so don’t forget to enter and give it your support.
