Easts claim victory

East Armidale United were too strong for the Demon Knights, winning 2-0 in their round eight game of the Women’s Premier League on Sunday at Doody Park.
Windy, cold conditions greeted the girls, with neither side looking dominant over the other in a scoreless first half, even though DK could only field nine players in the first half. However, in the second half, East Armidale looked to take advantage of field position, with their passing beginning to find the mark, sealing the victory with two unanswered goals.
East Armidale Coach Steve Davies was pleased that his girls found a bit of form in the second half, with the backs putting some strong set pieces in place and taking advantage of field position.
“In the first half, DK only had nine players and we weren’t able to take advantage,” said Steve.
“Our passing game came together better in the second half, which made it much better for us and enabled us to score the two goals.”
Janaya Lockwood had a strong game for East Armidale; however the coach was pleased with his side’s overall performance.
“We are sitting second in the competition, with North Armidale the team to beat,” said Steve.
“They have pretty much beaten everyone four or five-nil. We are much more competitive with the other two sides – Demon Knights and Joeys.”
In the other round eight game, Norths United demolished Joeys FC 6-0.
