Rep sides to play Inverell

THREE local high schools played in the Armidale Inter-School Rugby League Finals Day last week at the Consett Davis Fields at SportUNE.
Armidale High School, Duval High School and O’Connor Catholic College all fielded teams in four different age groups – Under 13s, 14s, 15s and 16s. Armidale High won the U13 and U14s competition and O’Connor were successful in the U15s and U16s.
“The boys have been playing in a Wednesday afternoon comp throughout the term and this is the finale to that competition,” one of Armidale High School’s coaches Tim Channon said.
“Representative teams in the age groups 14-16 year will be heading to Inverell in late July to compete against Inverell’s best sides, and a developmental squad has been chosen to travel to the Gold Coast for a weekend to train with the Gold Coast Titans.”
North West Rugby League Convenor Tim Polson said is was the third year of sending a developmental squad to the Gold Coast.
“We are really starting to see the benefits of the program, with many past squad members reaching high levels of representative football,” he said.
“The Titans make us guests of their facilities and their coaching and development staff train the squad for an entire day and the boys also attend a Titans NRL match.”
