Terranora Lakes will start the Cricket season this weekend but the club could do with a few more players according to senior player David Parkes.
“We are still looking for players but most clubs are,” he said.
“Every club is struggling for numbers except Cudgen and the competition has lost a few teams this year.
“Cricket is a dying sport at the moment. We’re just not seeing the young players coming through any more and those that do seem to be changing clubs and showing no loyalty.
“It means the older players who want to pull back from first-grade cricket are staying on year after year just to keep the team alive
“The standard of cricket on the Tweed is not as good as it was 10 years ago because of the lack of commitment to the game.
“But we’re hoping for a nice dry summer and hopefully a good season will get people back.”
If anyone is keen to play for Terranora they can pop along to training any Thursday from 4.30pm and sign up or find out more info.
