Almost 300 people took part in the Twin Towns Runners and Walkers Club’s annual Good Friday Fun Run this year.
A great day was had by all according to organiser Tony Kean although numbers were slightly down on previous years.
“We saw some great runners amongst the midgets aged 10 years and under,” he said.
“Ava Cormack from Byron Bay was first ten-year-old female over the line while Finn Kenny won the male event. Finn won the eight & under back in 2009.
“Meg O Neill and OLiver Churchill won the 500metres for girls & boys from very enthusiastic chasers.
“Zali Eason-Coutts was the winner of the 3k for females and Peter O Sullivan once again won the male section.”
The six kilometre saw two very fast winners, Daniel Coleman and Leshay Wells. Both serious runners with talent.
“I have seen many events around our area and cannot remember Leshay coming second,” he said. “Certainly not in her age group anyway.
“Again the disappointing group each year is the 18 to 20 age group. Where do they go for Easter? “Certainly not to something as exhausting as running three or six kilometres.”
However he said the walkers were once again well represented and obviously enjoyed the outing.
“The 3k winners were Cassius Sowowski and Courtney Rush while the 6k winners were Clive McKerr andVanessa Durrington.
We should mention the second place inthe 6k walk was a Twin Towns Board member Leigh Bradley who has supported this event since its inception.
Next year the event will be run on the same day, same place same time on April 6, 2012.
“The event raised $2000 towards the building fund for Fingal Rovers but that won’t go very far on a project as planned,” he said.
“ We would like to thank the local business people for their random draw prizes and support.”
