The UNE Barbarians have come of age as a rugby powerhouse in the New England Rugby competition, demolishing a lack-lustre Armidale Blues outfit 39 to 3 at The Barbarians’ home ground, Alcatraz, on Saturday.
The dominant display has positioned the Baa Baas on the top of the New England Rugby competition ladder.
Baa Baas Coach Sam Piddington couldn’t have been happier with his side’s performance on Saturday.
“It was a great day for the club, with all three grades winning on Saturday,” Sam said.
“We started really well and held on to possession, with our forwards putting in the work to give our backs some space and we scored some good tries.
“It was a simple game plan that we executed really well.”
The difference on the day for the Baa Baas was their aggressive forward pack that outmuscled the Blues.
“We dominated the lineout and scrums, which gave the backs plenty of room,” said Sam.
“We still have a lot of room for improvement, but we are hoping to build towards a premiership.”
Strong performances from Baa Baas outside centre Josh Coulthurst and inside centre Damo Biddle helped the Barbarians to a significant win over rivals, the Armidale Blues.
