Commencing this Thursday, March 7, students aged five to 12 years are invited to come along to the Armidale Sport and Recreation Centre and join the new Milo in2CRICKET program indoors.
Recently CNSW has set up a partnership with Indoor Sports NSW to work together to build participation numbers indoor. Through this partnership, Regional Development Manager for Cricket Kathy Barber will be delivering the new Indoor Program with the support of Armidale Cricket’s Grant Uphill, who co-ordinates the outdoor summer program and Wayne Clarkson, who runs the indoor facility.
Similar programs are being established across the State, in Central North in Armidale, Glen Innes and Inverell. The Indoor option overcomes the weather issues of washouts due to rain or concerns about the heat and sun exposure. It offers a very exciting new opportunity for junior cricket development.
In 2012 Armidale Junior Cricket Association targeted the local schools to help build the junior numbers with a mixture of success. This next Indoor program on a Thursday afternoon from 4.15pm to 5.30pm is designed to attract new participants to the game that do not have four hours on a Saturday but would like to learn the skills of the game and have fun at sport.
Pending the success of the program, the plan is to host a junior indoor activity in Term 2 if the community interest is there for the program.
For more information on how to join the Milo In2CRICKET Armidale Indoor Program, call Wayne at the Sport and Recreation Centre on 6772 8099, or contact Kathy Barber on (M) 0425 297 722. Enrolments will be taken at the venue next Thursday from 3.30pm.
