Two South Tweed Sports bowlers have teamed up to take their club’s premier event, the South Tweed Sports Open Pairs.
Carrying a 25-shot margin into the final two games, Nigel Smith and Neville Jenkins (both South Tweed) knew two wins over fellow South Tweed teams of Wilson/Kerkow and Bennett/Mitchell would almost certainly give them the title.
Although that’s how it panned out with a comfortable 19-shot last game win, the penultimate game against Kerkow went to the last end, with Jenkins prevailing by a single shot after a wayward Kerkow drive gave them the match, with Jenkins not needing his last bowl.
What made their win more meritorious was the performance of lead Nigel Smith who was literally in intensive care seriously ill only a month ago.
Michael Anderson (Ballina, 2nd overnight) equalled Jenkins with seven wins but was a distant 24 shots adrift to finish second.
