In what could be viewed as a much needed outlet for adolescents and adults alike, Robbie started the gym in the hope of developing boxing skills as well as improving the confidence of his gym’s members.
“When I became injured and could no longer fight, I knew I would always find a way to become involved in boxing,” he said.
“When I see the confidence lift in a child’s self esteem, I am reminded of the reason why I started the gym in the first place.”
In addition to building confidence in children, Robbie is providing coaching assistance and support to those who are starting out in the boxing ring as a competitor.
Robbie has taken on three competitive male fighters, Duke ‘The Phantom’ Dean age 20, John Adams 25, Clinton A’Hang 19 and female Chloe Ballantine 15.
“We are looking to showcase Chloe in an exhibition in the next couple of months, in a no winner, no loser controlled environment, a light sparing match,” he said.
Robbie explained that the Boxing League has no shortage of female fighters “young women are really getting out there nowadays”.
His male fighters have performed well too. In the Boxing League, John Adams has had one win, one draw, Clinton A’Hang has had two losses, and Duke ‘The Phantom’ Dean is displaying tremendous talent with two wins.
Duke ‘The Phantom’ Dean will be fighting in a rematch against Vero Bebe for the North Coast Light Heavy Weight Title held in Moree this Saturday 13 July.
“I’m quietly confident that ‘The Phantom’ will be bringing the belt back with him,” Robbie said.
The call is out for another serious male boxer in the 60kg weight division to join Robbie and his team. Anyone interested can call him on 0438 653956.
