Annual City for all Seasons minor pairs
LAST week I competed in a carnival at Tuncurry. While there I met up with former Armidale City members Lorraine and Kevin Smartell. They are settling in well and last week travelled to Blackhead for that clubs annual mixed pairs carnival and were successful in winning the event. The carnival is run over two weeks with a total of $10,600 prize money on offer. And while on carnivals details, the City club’s annual City for all Seasons minor pairs on 13 and 14 October will be forwarded to all clubs this week. The two-day event has $3000 up for grabs and is only open to minor graded players with men’s mixed or ladies’ teams invited.
District fours at Inverell
NO luck for the Guyra team in the district fours at Inverell East on the weekend. I was unable to obtain the scores from the club but they did tell me that the Gunnedah team of B. Sheppard, J. Palmer, D. O’Callaghan and W. Clay defeated South Tamworth’s N. Wise, S. Thornijng, P. Whitton and D. Eather in the final. The pairs will be played on 27 and 28 July at Quirindi and in the state division Jake and Glen Graham will play Rod Dixon and Doug Newton while Geoff Reeves and John Jackson play
A. Sheppard and P. Williams from North West in the seniors. Walcha’s Mick Hamel and Brian Lockyer are up against Central Northern’s G. Sharman and D. Shorter in the Reserve division. All winners will progress to the state finals at East Maitland.
