Popular golf day on again

The 13th annual SportUNE Golf Day will take place this Friday, March 16, at the Uralla Golf Course to raise money for UNE Sporting Scholarships.
Members of the Armidale and university community are invited to enter a team of four.
This is a great opportunity for corporate teams to get together and help raise money to support UNE students.
These scholarships attract elite athletes to the University of New England and the Armidale community, and allow student athletes to compete at a state, national and international level.
In 2012, there are sixteen sporting scholarship recipients supported by this fundraiser.
These recipients are required to represent UNE in club and intervarsity competitions.
“Since Golf Day began in 2000, it has been really encouraging to see the continual support of the Armidale community,” said David Schmude, Executive Director of SportUNE.
“The UNE sports scholarship program has helped hundreds of student athletes remain competitive in their chosen sport, while providing incentive and time for these athletes to maintain their academic progress.”
Lunch will be held at 12.30pm, with play beginning at your choice of session, either 8.00am or 1.15pm, with a “shot gun’ start.
The day will be in the format of a four-person Ambrose event, with teams competing to win the Vice Chancellors Cup.
There will be ample prizes and giveaways, so golfing proficiency is not a necessity to go home with a prize and have a fun day.
A four person team costs $160, which includes transport to and from the Uralla Golf Club.
The money raised will be matched by SportUNE to support the scholarship program.
The SportUNE Golf Day is one of the regions largest corporate golf days, with sponsorship from twenty-two local businesses, including Armidale City Bowling Club, Armidale City Signs, Armidale Fire and Safety, Armidale Independent, Barniers Office Furniture, Broadlex Services, Coca Cola Amatil, Ducats Earthmoving, 2AD/FM100.3, Hannon’s Mount View Pharmacy, Inland Technology, Jacksons Quality Meats, McDonalds Armidale, Merilba Estate Wines, New England Mutual, Precision Motors, Armidale Retravision, Roberts & Morrow, Armidale Ex-Services, Armidale Sportspower, Wicklow Hotel and Lion Nathan.
