Casuarina Hockey Club has been instrumental in assisting Vanuatu Under 21 Men’s team to win a bronze medal at the recent Oceania Junior World cup qualifiers held on the Gold Coast.
The Tweed based club billeted the players and officials for eight days.
It was an outstanding exercise in the development of friendship between two vastly different groups of people.
The players were able to train and play practice matches in the tournament lead-up.
While not yet a match for the likes of Australia and New Zealand, the team was able to defeat PNG for the first time ever in the medal round.
The families provided beds, meals, a trip to Currumbin Sanctuary, a visit to an Aussie school and a big celebration party. The host families were very much enriched by the experience and there is a move to continue the relationship.
