Pottsville swimmers headed for State

It’s not everyone that gets to swim in a major meet at the Homebush Olympic Centre in Sydney but that’s just what five Pottsville Primary School students will be doing early next month.
The group have qualified for the NSW PSSA state titles and will swim off against the best in the state.
They include Emma Bashforth, Emily Douglas, Ava Hollis and Grace Worthington who, despite not training together before the events, have swept all before them to win at school, district, regional and north coast in the senior girls relay.
The group will now try to make it a clean sweep when they head on to the blocks for state.
Emily will also compete in the butterfly at the same event.
Also taking the trip south is seven-year-old Bailey Charlesworth who said his dad encouraged him to swim from an early age. It’s certainly paid off with the young year three student making the State Titles for the 50m freestyle.
The group are now busy raising money to pay for their trip (they have $100 of raffle tickets to sell).
“I’ve already sold mine,” Bailey said.
But the girls will be out and about (probably in front of the IGA) selling their tickets (the prizes are sporting goods) raising the much-needed funds for what could be a trip of a lifetime for the budding swimmers.
