Armidale and District Football’s annual Jack Vallance Memorial carnival attracted 77 teams and over 600 players from Tamworth through to Glen Innes.
A 7 Years Kangaroos team was extremely excited when they had the opportunity to play against a new unknown team. Glen Innes brought down a strong team and they enjoyed a challenging and fun game against a team that they had never played. Smiles on every-one’s faces said it all, reflecting the health of junior soccer in the region. East Armidale’s 12 Years team stepped up a grade and, from all reports, had a great day. They had draws with the Division 1 heavyweights Demon Knights Bravehearts and Guyra Magpies.
The 6 Years to 10 Years played in round robin competition with all children excited with their ribbons and medallions at the end of the day
The highlight for many teams was playing against teams that they had never played before.
Official results on the day were:
16 Years – Demon Knights Shields were undefeated on the day, second was North Armidale Redmen and Ex-Services West Rangers came in third.
14 Years Div 1 — Competition front runners South Armidale Sea Eagles pipped out North Armidale Titans, with Glen Innes coming third.
14 Years Div 2 — In an extremely closely contested competition, three teams ended up on the same points. North Armidale Redbacks were given the nod, winning with a superior goal difference. Demon Knights Iron Maidens won against Demon Knights Eves in the goal shootout to determine who received the runners-up trophies. A relatively new Glen Innes girls’ team also had a good day, only losing one of its four games. Unable to score saw them relegated to 4th spot. Ex West Bobcats also was not too far off the pace.
12 Years Div 1 — Only three points separated first and 4th in the 12 Years Division 1 competition. Demon Knights Bravehearts won out on the day, followed by North Armidale Quokkas.
12 Years Div 2 — Glen Innes with two wins and a draw came first, followed by Demon Knights Lancers North Armidale Glory and Ex-Services West Wolves.
