Tweed v FNC lost 10-6
After the round games the girls were in a three way tie for first place. The placings were decided on “runs against” with Tweed being relegated to third for the play-offs.
In the semi final they had to face Far North Coast again. This was a very tight game and came down to the last innings where the girls needed four runs to draw or five to win. Unfortunately they were not able to add anymore runs to their total so FNC progressed through to the Final.
All girls were a credit both on and off the field to their respective associations and their parents.
The girls did everything that was asked of them by their Coach and played exceptionally well all day.
As the team had some very young and inexperienced players it was thought they may have been overwhelmed by their older more experienced opposition but this did not happen.
The girls took it to the other teams and showed they could play just as well as them, size and age didn’t matter.
Infielders Danni Jones-Calvert(captain), Claire Evans and Lucie Jones-Calvert all did a tremendous job in their respective positions as not much got passed them all day, they backed up well and encouraged the pitcher all day.
We would like to thank Annaleise Nohotima and Tyla Breedon from Kempsey and Tamara, Greta and Tayla from Coffs Harbour who combined with the Tweed girls for the day for without them we would not have been able to field a full team. The Tweed girls made the other girls feel most welcomed and they all played like they had being playing together for ages.
The Kempsey and Coffs Harbour girls also fielded and batted exceptionally well and made some great outs and also did everything asked of them by the Coach.
Overall this was a great team to have been a part of and we hope all girls have gained some valuable information from this experience.
Special thank you to my assistant coach Tama, manager Tammy and scorer Michelle who all contributed to making this team run as smoothly as it did.
We now wait to see if any of the girls and boys have been selected into the North Coast Academy of Sport(NCAS). The academy was using this as a selection process due to the scheduled trial day being washed out in late January.
