New Kingscliff courts opened

By TANIA PHILLIPS

TENNIS was focus on Sunday as more than 100 people of all ages headed to Kingscliff Hill for the Kingscliff Tennis Club open day.
This year’s open day also celebrated the resurfacing of the three local courts – turning them from hard courts to synthetic grass.
“We had a fantastic turn out,” head coach Rhys McDougall said.
“Multisports Concepts representatives who were contracted to resurface the courts came along to support the day and enjoyed seeing the fruits of their labour.
“Well over 100 people attended throughout the day which included current members of the club and a host of new members that signed up at a discounted rate on the day.”
Rhys, who has 23 years of coaching experience and has played tennis for Australia the past four years in the over-35s men’s team, organised an action-packed three hours of games for both kids and adults alike. His coaching staff, Stephen Gort, Matthew Ternes and Tailey Beaver who are also top level players and coaches were also present and helped keep the day running smoothly for everyone.
The club gave away more than $1000 worth of prizes on the day which were kindly donated by local businesses, Casuarina Rec Club, Santai Retreat, Playtennis, Kirra Dive and Design Scout.
“Every child walked away with a prize and a smile on their face so that really was a great result.
“We signed up some new members who got to enjoy the facilities and meet the coaches.”
He said for the remainder of this week the Kingscliff Tennis Club had decided to continue it’s discounted half-price membership rate.
“Anyone even slightly interested in playing tennis should come along and sign up now,” Rhys said.
There are many social groups for the adults and a fantastic coaching program that caters for both adults and children.
