Tennis hits the spot

For parents of children who are passionate about sports activities such as tennis, it is good to know that there are junior tennis camps in Armidale being held by Sheriffs Tennis Academy that may help your kids get better at the essentials of the game.
Summer tennis camps provide a challenging, helpful atmosphere that offers a great deal of focused attention on the basics of the game each day, through both competitive games and individual instruction. Kids are organised according to their experience and compete with other young players at or a little higher than their proficiency level – the best method to advance their abilities. In addition, they have opportunities for “one on one’ with experts.
Tennis is a sport of rapid maneuvers and instant decision making, so competitors need to be skilled enough in the various strokes and approaches that their moves occur almost at the reflex level. For example, if an opponent likes to stand behind the baseline or doesn’t like to run, the instinctive tactic should be to hit a drop shot, which is precisely what it sounds like – the ball drops quickly as it flies over the net. Having the ability to respond instantaneously with the right maneuvers calls for a lot of practice – the sort of training offered at the upcoming tennis camp for the advanced players.
Because it is an individual, rather than a team sport, tennis often appeals to those children who favor individual games. The equipment needs are negligible – a quality racket and a pack of balls are often all you really need. Adding a camp experience to the mix is a priceless addition to a budding tennis star’s toolkit, by encouraging teamwork and helping forge long-lasting friendships.
The upcoming Tennis Camp is being run by Sherriff’s Tennis Academy from Monday, January 23 to Wednesday, January 25. It is a multi standard Camp. Beginners and intermediate players from 9-3pm and advanced players from 9-3pm also. The cost for the 3 days is $120 per player. Bookings are essential, so contact Justin Sherriff on 0423 915 850. It is held at TAS tennis courts, Chapel St entrance and if it is wet will be held in the TAS Gym.
These camps, which run each holiday break, are a perfect introduction to tennis for your child as there is no pressure and they are lots of fun while learning the skills needed for tennis and making new friends at the same time.
