They came from everywhere to celebrate 100 summers of the Tweed Heads and Coolangatta Surf Club at Greenmount at the weekend.
Over three days of celebrations, more than 500 people returned to the club to relive past glories and remember what it was like to be part of the club – the oldest in Queensland.
Centenary committee chairman Alan Hickling said there was a lot of reminiscing and having fun – although rain on Sunday did keep numbers down during the family fun day.
“But people were coming and going all day,” he said.
“They came from everywhere – I saw one person that
I hadn’t seen since we were in teams in the ’50s.”
Rather than rest on their laurels though, the club is expected to be just as busy this weekend when the focus turns from past to future as they host more than
1500 youngsters for the
Queensland State Junior Titles
from Friday through to Sunday.
